dog sitting in the great outdoors

It's so beautiful today. I just cannot resist being outside. I think this is the most I have been out of doors since last fall. I realize that March 21st is supposed to be the first day of spring, but since we've had the strangest weather, I am declaring today May 15th the first official day of Spring.

The sun is shining, the birds singing, the flowers blooming and I am sitting on my deck with my cat Tiger and the ever cute schnauzer Miss Lilly. Mr. Chewy is in the house enjoying a nice snooze after his morning stroll through the backyard. The other cats are of course hiding because Dogs are really not allowed in their world. I'm pretty sure if they could use a pen, they would sign a petition to stop us from dog sitting in the future.

dogs are like children in my world. I want one until I am forced to deal with it. Then I really must rethink my strategy. So far we've had two small accidents in the house. Both of course my fault, as the dogs are not litter trained nor should they have to be. Yesterdays puddle in the living room is because I was sleeping the drugs away. While I should have gotten up a second time and took them outside, I was in serious hopes that they would and could hold it until Dan got home. Of course how were the three of us to know he would take his time and come home an hour later than usual? No one should have to hold it for that long. *sigh*.

This mornings little mishap was because while they got outside at a good time. 7:00 am. I guess I didn't give them enough outdoor time to make sure that all functions were done. Someone left a small poop in the kitchen. Again my fault.

Now this really wouldn't have mattered at all if I could have just left the back door open and allowed them to roam out in the yard. But the strong crazy winds of March left my fence looking like a sad redneck yard with missing teeth. The dogs roam well when I'm outside, but I can't just leave them to their own devices.

The pepper plant is not looking so well. I think I should have held off another week before planting it, but I am in hopes of a great recovery. Beth thinks that she and I can build me a planter box. Something that sits off the ground and is waist high. I would love to grow some cucumbers and zucchinni and maybe even a watermelon. Beth says she wants a salsa garden, and I have to say that sounds nice too.

The wasps and hornets are out in force. I really wish they were bumble bees instead, but I guess that's not going to happen. Right now they have several small nests around the backyard. Including the dog house we keep for the stray cats. I hate to have Dan kill them, but they will be a big nusence when we have BBQ's. With Memorial Day coming up, we need to get them taken care of. I don't want anyone getting stung like last year. But i do need them to pollenate my tomatos and peppers. So it's a total catch 22.

The cherry tree is looking good. I have a feeling that the cherries are still going to be quite a few. i'm resigned to that, and will look forward to seeing if Meredith's boyfriend will want to pick them. Dan wants me to get Jill and her hubby to bring some friends and dig up the already established small cherry tree that is right next to our house. I think we actually have to wait until fall so we don't kill it, but I will make sure. I would love for her to have it and for it to leave my yard.

We missed the clean up days in the neighborhood, so for another year the redneck yard bosts of 3 BBQ's where only one works. Also to mine and Dan's chargrin, we never did get the pumpkins out of the garage, Rotten pumpkin anyone?

Well I'm going to gather the dogs, (Chewy made it out the door for a bit) and go lay down. My leg is still very sore and is bugging me now that I've been sitting so long. *huff*, I can't wait until I can walk normal again.
