I have always been told that a cat who will wash himself in front of you, is showing you respect and love. He is saying to you: " you are important enough to me that I will show you my sacred cleaning ritual, and you will be impressed." But what does it say when the cat sees you with the dog you are babysitting, climbs into your lap and then proceeds to clean himself?
I fear that Tiger is jealous of Miss Lily, and is showing his possesiveness by climbing onto me at every chance. Especially when I sit outside while she runs around. I hold him and assure him I love him very much, and he just nuzzels on me, and then looks at her and begins to wash himself.
It's almost like seeing a child get an icecream and then showing it off to all the other children who didn't get one. If he was a real boy, I would be deeply embarrassed.
The dogs go home today, and I know as fact that Argo will rejoice. He is the only other cat besides Tiger that has braved the dogs. He unlike Tiger though, will not go head to head, but he has perfected the tease. We have a baby gate up between our bedrooms and the rest of the house. This way the Cats have a place to go with no dogs. Fortunatly we also have a sliding glass door in our bedroom so they can still get out of the house. Argo enjoys standing on the other side of the baby gate and teasing Lily. She gets all worked up seeing him there. She's even gotten Chewy to bark with her, although I'm pretty sure he has no idea why.
Having the dogs has been fun, but it has reminded me of all the things that go along with them. It's been really difficult for me to watch Chewy trying to get around and such. Being 16 in dog years is a real bitch from what I see. I have spent most of the weekend praying he stays happy and moving. I don't know what I would have done if he got sick and passed away on my watch. Lily has been a joy. Se's so well behaved. Comes when called and stays in the yard. Her only issue as far as I am concerned is her need to chase my cats. lol
Patches has been pretty good with the dogs here. The gate is a blessing and while she's unhappy she can't sit with her daddy, she isn't showing her unhappiness by peeing all over my stuff. The Princess was trapped downstairs the first night the dogs were here. We didn't realize until the next day we hadn't seen her. Dan found her under the family room couch, scared to death. (I don't understand why. When I first got her she lived with two dogs for over a year). Now she is in the bedroom and content because the gate is out far enough that she can still get to the bathroom to do her shower guard duties,
Meela is my biggest worry. She got chased by Lily the other day. She's such a timid creature, and I hope this hasn't scarred her. She's taken almost a year to get to the point of sitting with us.
Right now I am sitting outside and have been since 7:30 am. What the heck? I have had to push Tiger off twice and call Lily back a couple of times from the side of the yard w/no fence. Chewy had gamboled around a few times, but I think he's done for the morning as he went back into the house. Andy and Stef should have gotten home last night. We thought they would pick the dogs up then, but found out that they would be getting back late. Dan and I offered to keep the dogs another night, and they were happy. So my puppies will go home today, and my kitties will get their house back. And all will be right in the Boe house again.
